Along the path there are many hills and valleys that we will endure and must continually fight to find our way. The concept of happiness is one that everyone strives for and it take a lot of self reflection to know and learn what it take to be happy and find happiness along our journey. Happy defined: cheerful, cheery, merry, joyful, jovial, jolly, jocular, gleeful, carefree, untroubled, delighted, in good spirits, pleased, contented, radiant, chirpy, blissful, buoyant, satisfied, jubilant, in a good mood, overjoyed…

Happiness is not a destination, but a journey. It is a state of mine when you consider that it is impossible to blissful 24/7. But a constant decision to not be overwhelmed by circumstance, conditions or situations. A mindset that what we focus on will be the outcome of our overall demeanor. We cannot expect to be happy if we surround ourselves with negative people who focus on all the things that have gone wrong or not worked out for whatever reason. The “nay sayers” who bring us down instead of lifting us up. The ones who fail to see all the blessings that surround them even in the midst of hard times, in the face of disappointment or times of conflict. If we focus on the negatives how can we appreciate all the positive things, some people just can’t see the brighter side of things when they are going through it.

Nevertheless, we cannot expect others to act in a way we would like in accordance to what makes us happy, this will only lead to disappointment. Some people will never be there for us when we really need them, to support, encourage or inspire us as we hope. We cannot expect others to give us what they don’t have the capacity to give or at least hold us in the same regard as we do them.

We must look within for our happiness and live our lives as we see fit and be the change we wish to see in others. However, there are times that we will need to remove ourselves from the negativity so that we can maintain our spiritual balance. This may require us to change our circle of friends if need be. Not all the people you call “a friend” truly are. The true ones are few and far between like diamonds in the rough. They are our gifts, they expect nothing in return and are truer than true.

A listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, a partner in crime (so to speak), the irreplaceable ones, the one in a million ones that we cherish. These are the friends that often help to build us up and rejuvenate our energies in times of need. Theses are kindred spirits we find endless laughter and joy with when we are in their presence. They lighten a dark room, their smile so brilliant you forget your worries in the instant you see it, lifting your spirits and helping to cushion the blows along life’s journey…

Therefore, what we focus on will dictate our words, actions and radiate as such. Be mindful of what you place your mental focus on so as to make a conscious decision to avoid all that is negative and destructive to your being. Likewise, beware of outward influences and those we surround ourselves with so as to not be negatively influenced… .Be the friend you seek!
